The Good, The Bad & The Luck: December 2021 Recap

Welcome to MHM December 2021 recap. The good, the bad and the luck.

So, where am I at? WOW! I can’t believe that this is the last month of 2021! Usually, December is so busy and full-on but this year, I felt prepared and excited for the winter holidays. While walking through London it was amazing to see the city come to life with Christmas decorations and various Christmas markets. Admittedly, it was also wonderful to explore the city with so many sunny days in December!

MHM Highlights from December 2021 Recap

Facetiming my family. Can I get an ‘Amen’ for modern-day technology?! Being an EXPAT can be super hard and lonely at times. But, with the help of video calls, it’s a lot easier now to stay in touch and see real-life emotions from your far-away loved ones. I always am grateful for every minute that I get to talk to my family on a video call. My dad, who is the most important person in my life, but quite technology illiterate, I should add, even got the hang of a video call… I’ve only been gone 7 years! (Love you, dad.)

Trying out a new travel tripod. Since my shoulder injury, I have been growing more and more frustrated by the limitations I have. Such as carrying around camera gear in a rucksack. So, with thinking of glass as half full, rather than half empty, I am trying out a new Kingjoy travel tripod that is meant to be sturdy, but lightweight (only 3kg) So far so good! Deffo check it out if you’re wanting a lightweight, reliable tripod.

I visited so many Christmas markets in London.

It wasn’t until I started writing my recap that I realised I had been to quite a few. I LOVE a Christmas market. There is something about the festive music, funny ornaments and food stalls galore that just put a massive smile on my face. Oh, not to mention the sweet snacks! Whether it was a small pop-up market in London or Winter Wonderland, I was there for it.

Binged Emily in Paris. Maybe, just maybe, it’s not good to binge a series. But in my defence, when you need a programme on in the background whilst you’re getting work done, Emily in Paris came to the rescue. And oh my goodness did it make me miss the beautiful city. I will go back this year. Please hold me to that. Please.

Maybe TMI but they got a new litter tray and so far, so good. The first night I put it in the house JJ tried to sleep in it. She’s always been a bit … shall we say, different, with change. But now it’s just another part of the furniture in the house. We have another one downstairs that acts as a coffee table and it was seriously the BEST PURCHASE EVER for the cats. Oh, and my coffee.

Just My Luck: December 2021 Recap

I drove into a curb! What is wrong with me? The driver behind me was going so fast that I got nervous and turned too quickly because I couldn’t slow down without him hitting me. So, I accidentally bumped the curb. Luckily no damage was done. Aside from a few scratches on my alloys, oops.

MHM Lowlights: December 2021 Recap

Another year has gone by that I am not in Canada for Christmas. This is hard. I love my friends and family in England, but the festive period is always such a stark reminder that another year has gone by and it’s another year that I’m not spending the holidays with my family. If you spend the holidays alone, or away from family, I’m sending you a great big hug. Because I know what it’s like.

I saw a pain specialist just before Christmas. I suppose I should say that this is a positive, rather than a low moment. The truth is though, that I struggle with the idea that I have some sort of damage in my neck and shoulder and not really a clear strategy on how I’m going to fix it. At some point, we have to learn how to live with chronic pain. But where do we draw the line? Anyways, the specialist was hopeful that there is a surgery he can do to fix the damage in my neck. So, I must hold onto that.

I posted a reel about my time at Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park. It was such an incredible evening. There are so many rides, shows, food stalls, live bands, and skating and other activities for all ages to enjoy. I love Winter Wonderland. Some say that it is a tourist trap. Whether that’s true or not I don’t really care. It’s a great place and such a happy activity to do over the Christmas holidays.

Flower Market at London Bridge Station December 2021

2022 is going to be MY year. Yes, I am being selfish here. The past two years have been terrible and this is NO MORE. Out with the old, and in with the new. 2022 is going to be the year that I really focus on monetising my blog, and discovering more of London as I go through this pivot on Map Her Miles. I hope you’re ready! I’m so freaking excited.

With travel the way it is, I am thinking that I will be going on more last-minute trips. I definitely miss getting on a plane and exploring somewhere new. So I can’t stay grounded for too much longer.

I also have told myself that I need to start going to the theatre again! After they closed, I stopped going and I think I’ve just got comfortable with not going anymore. It’s time to break that cycle and get back to the shows! I hope that when I write my next recap I will have been to the theatre.

Winter Wonderland 2021

So many Christmas Markets in London! My fave is Winter Wonderland. Make sure you read my post about it! We also went to Windsor where I was hoping to spot The Queen. She was home, but I couldn’t spot her. Don’t really know what I was thinking really. She definitely wasn’t going to come down and say hi to me!

Well, that’s it for my December 2021 Recap. Let’s see what 2022 brings!

I started Map Her Miles as a way to celebrate my successes, remember my amazing travels and open up about my mental health. So often life can escape us and I felt like I was living my life on auto-pilot. MHM Blog is here for me to share my travel experiences with all of you, and also share any tips I learn along the way to live a happier, healthier life. These recaps are meant to reflect on my month and plan a productive month ahead. They inspire me to keep going, and I hope that MHM Blog inspires you, too!
